Yoga Tips

Get the most from your yoga class

  • Listen to your body. You are in your body.  The instructor is a merely a guide.

  • Yoga feels good.  Always remain aware of your body and its limits. If a movement or posture is uncomfortable, you might have gone too far.  If you cannot comfortably get into a pose, ask your instructor for assistance or use props.

  • Ask, Ask, Ask. If you have any questions or require clarification – ask. If you are thinking it, someone else probably is too. Be aware that in every pose there are modifications and choices.

  • Practice at the appropriate level. Yoga will awaken muscles you forgot that you had.  It also requires a good deal of focus and solid understanding of foundational postures.

  • Learn the basics first.  Yoga is a practice, not a sport.

  • Try not to compare yourself to others. Turn your attention inward. Try closing your eyes for more focus.

  • Personal attention.  Yoga is a very individual experience. A well-qualified instructor will be accessible to answer questions and assist with your practice.

“Patience cannot be acquired overnight. It is just like building up muscle. Everyday you need to work on it.”
